    What is a Database?

  • A database is an organized collection of information, usually grouped in related topics.
  • A database contains tools to search through information, i.e. search boxes, field limits, and thesauri.
  • A database can provide immediate source information (e-journal, e-book).
  • A database can provide abstract information to help a user locate an original source in a library or elsewhere in the world!
  • EBSCO and LIRN are database portals: both EBSCO and LIRN provide access to multiple databases.
